A Manchester United Soccer Schools shirt signed by former Reds star Quinton Fortune has been presented to a school in Johannesburg, South Africa.
One of the lucky youngsters selected to play on the Old Trafford pitch as part of MUSS’s Champions Day was Jack Haworth, and it was during his dream day out that he got his shirt signed by the former Reds midfielder.
Jack then gave the shirt to his brother Nichols, who took the gift to Ferrum High School in Johannesburg as part of an exchange trip. The African school is twinned with Wellacre Technology College, Manchester, and they were delighted – and extremely surprised – to receive the gift.
John Haworth, father of Jack and Nichols, said the gift had been very well received: “I would just like to pass on a big ‘thanks’ from Jack and myself for the brilliant experience of Champion’s day, we both had a brilliant time.
“By all accounts the Headmaster was very taken aback with amazement that the shirt was signed by Quinton Fortune. He didn’t know it at the time he signed the shirt, but Quinton has made some of his young compatriots very happy indeed.”
