Owen Hargreaves is on the brink of completing his long-awaited comeback from injury.

United lost one Owen this week - Michael was ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury - but gained another as Hargreaves looks set to pull on the red shirt once again.

The 29-year-old England international has not played for the Reds since 21 September 2008, after undergoing a double knee operation, but he has been pencilled in for a return to action with United's Reserves.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's second string side take on Manchester City on Thursday 11 March at Moss Lane in Altrincham (kick-off 7pm GMT), and Hargreaves is expected to be involved.

"Owen has shown for the first time this week that he’s almost ready to play," United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said.

"We’ve pencilled him in for a Reserves game next Thursday and he’s been training with the first team, which has been good to see."
