United's young players have a real chance to progress through the ranks according to Under-18s coach Paul McGuinness, who is delighted to see Sir Alex continuing to give youth a chance at Old Trafford.
McGuinness, fresh back from guiding his charges to success at the Milk Cup tournament in Northern Ireland, watched with interest as the hero of last year's tournament - Federico Macheda - shone on the firs-team's pre-season tour of Asia.
"The examples are there in front of their own eyes – Macheda and Danny Welbeck have both done well, but not only them, you’ve got Jonny Evans and Darron Gibson and a host of other young players working their way through the Reserves and towards the first-team," says McGuinness.
“If you’re good enough, work hard enough and, most importantly, take your chance when it comes, you can be successful."
A young United side, boasting the likes of Ravel Morrison (above), Robbie Brady and Josh King, beat a host of top teams, including a Sheffield United in the final, in Northern Ireland. And now McGuinness says his players are ready for the start of the Premier Academy League season this month.
"The Milk Cup was a really good challenge against some very good teams, that’s the challenge we want for these boys."
The Reds kick off the league campaign against Southampton on Saturday 22 August.
