Summer signing Gabriel Obertan made his first appearance in United colours when he turned out for the Reserves on Monday night.
The winger, who Sir Alex Ferguson signed from Bordeaux in pre-season, has been unable to play for the Reds so far in the 2009/10 campaign due to a back injury.
However, the 20-year-old looks to be a fine prospect based on an impressive 45-minute cameo against Oldham in the 3-0 Manchester Senior Cup win at Hyde's Ewen Fields stadium.
Obertan produced some really classy touches on the ball, was creative and often showed his raw pace and power.
He was involved in United's second goal before being substituted at half time, by which time he'd shown enough to suggest that he has plenty of potential to be an asset to the first team.
He may need a few more Reserves appearances before Sir Alex drafts him in to the first team, but it was an exciting first outing nonetheless.
Febian Brandy gave United the lead in the game, before Sam Hewson doubled the score. Joshua King completed the comfortable win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side late on.
