United’s young wide man Gabriel Obertan has pushed his claim for a first team outing before the end of the campaign with a fine display and a scorching winning goal for the Reds’ Reserves against Liverpool.
The Frenchman fired in a superb strike for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second string on Tuesday night to settle the top of the table clash with our North West rivals. United now sit four points clear at the summit of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North and have a superior goal difference.
Obertan scored in last week's demolition of Hull, and followed it with his stunning winner against Liverpool.
With Sir Alex Ferguson watching the 1-0 win from the Moss Lane stands, Gabriel is keen to sample first-team action for the first time since February's loss at Everton.

"The most important thing was to win today, but it’s good for the confidence to score some goals," he told MUTV. "I scored in the last game [v Wolves] and once again today, so it’s been a pleasure.

"It’s always good when the gaffer is watching the game," he added. "There are four games left in the Premier League so it would be nice to be able to play a few games and have a few minutes on the pitch.

"It’s been a bit difficult the last couple of months because I didn’t play a lot with the first team, but I think I’ve worked hard with the Reserves and in training, and I think it’s paying off."
