Ole Gunnar Solskjaer visited Manchester United Soccer School in Lisbon last week, as a guest of the Reds’ former assistant boss, and now Portuguese national coach, Carlos Queiroz.
The Soccer School is based at the Carlos Queiroz Sports Complex in Oeiras, and Ole spent two days there, speaking to and coaching local youngsters.
Last Friday he watched the after school program involving 60 kids. Then the next morning attended a morning class with approx 40 players, taking part in the coaching session and helping players with their for dribbling and finishing.
The former striker, who netted 126 goals for the Reds, was keen to outline the Manchester United ethos.
''We believe that a player should have a range of skills and our coaches look to help players develop those skills,” says Solskjaer.
''Nani and Ronaldo are great players with skills. They have a tremendous capacity for pressing, and are physically very strong. They are real athletes with good attitude and very professional, and they have shown that someone who comes from Lisbon or Portugal, has the possibility of one day becoming a big star at a club like Manchester United.
“Why not dream that you will be the next Ronaldo? A kid should always have this dream! I come from a very small place called Kristiansund, in Norway, and I went on to play for Manchester United. Everybody starts somewhere, and anything is possible.”
Manchester United Soccer Schools’ international program manager Tony Byrne was delighted that Ole was able to visit the Lisbon-based course.
He said: "Since our programs started in Portugal in 2008 we've had a fantastic response to the various courses being delivered there. To have Ole visit the program and see at first hand the great facilities and quality of coaching being delivered was a tremendous boost for everyone involved. I'm sure those young players will remember for the rest of their lives the day they were coached by a true United legend."
