Seventy-two lucky young footballers got to play on the Old Trafford pitch last weekend during Manchester United Soccer Schools’ Champions Day.
The players attended a coaching course run by Manchester United Soccer Schools over the past 12 months and, as one of the top performers, earned the right to play on the famous Old Trafford pitch.
On Champions Day the children and their parents took part in specialist coaching workshops, had a tour of the museum and even walked down the ground’s sacred tunnel to the pitch. Images from the day can be seen here.
Also on the day, Soccer Schools launched its new PASS IT ON campaign with these young players becoming ambassadors for an initiative which will see them ‘pass on’ the 10 skills learned to 10 friends.
Players learned a mixture of football, lifestyle, social and nutritional skills, all key learnings for children who attend Manchester United Soccer Schools.
Mike Neary, UK and Ireland Programme Manager for Manchester United Soccer Schools, was delighted with the day and is looking forward to hearing of the progress the players make in passing on these key skills.
“We have received some fantastic feedback already and can’t wait to hear how the young players progress with passing on these skills. The importance of practice is a fundamental element of what we teach at Manchester United Soccer Schools and we hope these young ambassadors enjoy working on these skills with their mates back at home to help spread the word,” explains Mike.
For a chance to attend Champions Day in 2010 you need to attend a Manchester United Soccer Schools two or three day course in the UK or Ireland.
