Sixty-six budding young footballers will be following in the footsteps of their United heroes on Sunday when they take to the Old Trafford turf as part of Manchester United Soccer Schools’ Champions Day.
One child from each player development course across the UK and Ireland has been invited to practice their ‘pass it on’ skills and play in small-sided games at the home of the Reds – meaning they’ll be playing the United way in the ultimate venue.
All the youngsters chosen were selected because of their contribution to the course they attended, both on and off the pitch: for example, their attitude to practice and how the interact with others. Also in attendance will be 20 or so coaching representatives from the venues and junior clubs we have worked with.
The day is all about giving the players a once in a lifetime experience of playing on the Old Trafford pitch and Mike Neary, Soccer Schools’ UK and Ireland program manager, is looking forward to it. “Champions Day is a real celebration of our UK and Ireland courses over the last 12 months,” says Mike. “These lucky players will get the chance to literally live their dreams with a once in a lifetime opportunity of playing at Old Trafford. What could be better than that? The players were selected because of their fantastic on and off pitch performance and they deserve this great opportunity after doing so well on our courses.”
Manchester United Soccer Schools would like to wish the best of luck to all of those taking part. For your chance to take part in Champions Day 2011 then you can book your place on a Player Development course. Click here.
