Young Reds right-back Rafael couldn't hide his delight after signing a new two-year contract extension, a deal which keeps the talented Brazilian teenager at Old Trafford until at least June 2013.
The Rio de Janeiro-born right-back has caught the eye with 24 first-team appearances in his first season with the Reds. He made his Premier League debut against Newcastle in August and hasn't looked back.
And after penning his new deal, Rafael revealed that he hopes to have a long stay in Manchester.
“It's been a fantastic first season and I have been learning from all the players at the club, especially from the defence," he said.
"It has been an exciting time for me and I want to be part of this club for a long time, so to get an extension to my contract is unbelievable."
Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted with the progress the 18-year-old defender has made since his transfer from Brazilian club Fluminense.
“Everyone at the club has been very impressed and excited by his first year as a professional," the United boss added.
"His enthusiasm and the adventurous way he plays is typical of a Manchester United player, and we are delighted that he has signed a new contract.”
