Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand were both included in a 22-man squad that travelled to Germany on Monday morning for United's Champions League quarter-final clash with Bayern Munich.

The pair were rested for United's 4-0 win over Bolton Wanderers on Saturday but, as expected, are brought back into the fold for Tuesday's crucial last eight tie at the Allianz Arena.

The players departed Manchester International Airport at around 09:30 BST on Monday morning.

The good news is that Sir Alex has a fully fit squad to choose from, barring long-term absentees Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Owen Hargreaves, Anderson and Michael Owen.

United travelling squad for Munich is as follows: Van der Sar, Foster, Kuszczak; Neville, Rafael, Vidic, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra, De Laet; Carrick, Fletcher, Gibson, Scholes, Obertan, Nani, Valencia, Park, Giggs; Rooney, Berbatov, Macheda.

United will return to Manchester from Munich on Wednesday lunchtime, when the preparations for another big match - Chelsea's visit to Old Trafford on Saturday (12:45 BST) - get underway.
