Manchester United Soccer Schools has grown used to welcoming international teams to its base at Denstone College and the latest overseas visitors were Cornwall Hill boys team from South Africa.
The Under-13s school team from Pretoria brought 14 youngsters to Soccer Schools earlier this month and experienced coaching, playing local teams and even the Old Trafford atmosphere for the biggest game of the season against Chelsea. They certainly enjoyed themselves – despite the unfamiliar weather conditions.
During their six days at Denstone, the youngsters, and coaches, undertook the coaching the Manchester United way. The course concentrated on providing a true Soccer Schools’ experience, using past and present players to inspire and motivate, bringing the United training ground environment to the team, guiding each individual player to success and showing them how to keep developing once they go back to play for their team. Most of all having a great time travelling away with their teammates!
The visit made a real impact on our South African visitors.
“Wow what an opportunity and what an experience,” said Trevor Farley.
“Our lads did extremely well and more than held their own [in a friendly match],” Trevor added. “The 1-1 draw was not a true reflection of the game. The boys were rotated and placed in new positions, some being more successful than others. But it was wonderful to see the Cornwall Boys take on the English.”
While Dylan (12) added: “We had a tour to Old Trafford and it was amazing, we sat in our favourite Man United players’ changing room seats.”
