United have played two competitive matches so far this season - registering two wins - and one of the main plusses has been the amount of youngsters featuring in Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
New signings Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David De Gea have been joined in the ranks for the Community Shield and Premier League opener at West Brom by a number of other promising starlets. Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck have returned from loan spells to state their case for a regular first team berth, while Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Fabio, Rafael, Nani and Anderson have all given the side an even more youthful appearance.
Following injuries to Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, the fresh look to the side seems likely to continue in the weeks to come.
One of those likely to step in for the next game - against Spurs next week - is Smalling, who believes the understudies are ready to play their part.
"It's unfortunate to see your big players go down injured," Smalling told MUTV. "But, the manager has shown all pre-season he's willing to give the young players a go and he's thrown them in to big games. So it's great to see them step up.
"If you do well, the manager will keep you in the team. It's a big marker to all the other players and the rest of the squad that, if you play well, it doesn't matter how old you are. If you've got that ability, the manager is going to put you in."
