Having scored twice in a disappointing draw against Basel, Danny Welbeck admitted that personal glory counts for little amid collective disappointment.
The Longsight striker put United into a comfortable lead against Basel, only for the Reds to ultimately snatch just a point after a rousing comeback from the Swiss champions.
Although obviously delighted with his own input, Welbeck cut a disappointed figure after United's brush with a shock - and damaging - defeat.
"To get two goals in the Champions League, I'm over the moon with that," Welbeck told Sky Sports. "But it's a team game and I'm disappointed.
"We went into half-time 2-0 up and Manchester United should be finishing teams off. It's just not like us. In the second half we didn't start as bright as we should have.
"They gradually worked their way into the game and pulled two goals back quickly. As good teams do, they came out and passed the ball well. They played it from the back well and we found it difficult."
Nevertheless, Welbeck reacted in typical United fashion: refusing to dwell on the result, good or bad, and instead looking forward.
"We're really disappointed with the result," he admitted, "but we just have to get back into training and get on with it."
