Even more young footballers can learn to play the Manchester United way following the launch of the latest Soccer Schools course – the new National Schools Program.
The courses are specifically tailored for school players and teams (both boys and girls) aged 12-16 years, and will be held at PGL Liddington, near Swindon in Wiltshire.
On the weekend-long courses, youngsters will take part in practical sessions and player workshops focusing on analysing their game and practising a range of different techniques and movements as performed by the Manchester United first team.
The overall aim is for each player to be motivated and challenged to reach their optimum level of performance, whilst having a great time and meeting new friends. Plus one player showing these qualities from each course will win a place at Champions Day 2012, held on the Old Trafford pitch.
As part of the National Schools Program teachers are also given an insight into how Soccer Schools’ coaches analyse first team play, and are shown how to demonstrate to young players of all abilities how to emulate what they’ve seen.
“These sessions support the PGL activities where working and communicating as a team are also key to the problem solving and different physical challenges faced,” explains Mike Neary, Soccer Schools’ Program Manager for UK and Ireland.
“Working hard to never give in, working together and always believing in yourself are core traits of Sir Alex Ferguson’s successful Manchester United team – it’s an important message that is encouraged throughout the whole weekend.”
Recent courses of the National Schools Program have proven a great success. MUSS coached 70 players from Didcot Girls’ School, St Columba’s RC Boys’ School in Bexleyheath, and Hampton School in Middlesex – receiving wonderful feedback.
“ A thoroughly enjoyable weekend,” said Matt Robinson of Hampton School.
“A great learning experience with good equipment and interesting talks,” was the view of Lawrence Courtney, of the Middlesex-based school.
St Columba’s School were also in touch to say: “The boys and us staff thoroughly enjoyed the weekend – especially the fast paced and interactive training sessions and seminars run by your team. They ensured that all the boys fully participated and achieved throughout – we plan to steal a few of the drills!”
