Manchester United Soccer Schools have launched its first ever coaching program in India, allowing youngsters in the country the chance to learn, enjoy and play football the United way.
Soccer Schools have linked up with the Western India Football Association for the project, which is based on a newly-laid astroturf pitch at the Cooperage Ground in Mumbai.
Youngsters aged 8 to 18 will have the opportunity to develop their footballing and personal skills in a positive, safe and fun environment. And all the while working to a program based on Soccer Schools’ principles of coaching: Technical, Tactical, Physical, Mental and Social.
The long-term training programme will be run by full-time Soccer Schools’ coaching staff, and will give local coaches the chance to attend development courses to get an insight into the way the 19-times champions prepares its players. MUSS and WIFA hope that the course will also help the popularity of the game and produce a huge pool of talented young players and high quality coaches.
Speaking at the launch, Manchester United chief executive David Gill said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the WIFA in bringing this exciting training program to India. Manchester United Soccer Schools coaches have tremendous knowledge, experience and passion for the game that they will be able to pass on, both to young players and coaches. This is a long term commitment and we hope we will make an important contribution to the growth of Indian football.”
Soccer Schools have coached 140,000 youngsters from 47 different countries since 1999, but this is the first permanent base in India. Highly qualified MUSS coaches from the UK will focus on creating a positive learning environment so that all players, regardless of their age, experience or ability, will have the opportunity to reach their own level of potential – plus learn to work as a team, have a positive attitude, and most importantly, having fun.
“These intensive but fun football development programmes will significantly improve players’ skills at a young age,” said Praful Patel, President of WIFA. “We believe that this partnership will nurture and inspire young talent and provide players with the opportunity to realize their own potential.”
